Week 10: Top Games
Westlake (9-0) at St. Bonaventure (8-1) - The Miramonte League title is on the line tonight at Moorpark College as the top two teams in the Northern Division square off in the last game of the regular season. The Westlake Warriors are at the top of their game after looking almost flawless on their way to an undefeated season. Although quarterback Justin Moore, who has tallied 1600 yards passing and 644 yards rushing, and the Warrior offense have been stellar, the defense has been the staple of the team, allowing only 25 points in their last three games combined. The St. Bonaventure Seraphs' high powered offense, averaging 43.1 points per game, will be the toughest challenge yet for Westlake's defense. The Seraphs are 1-1 in games against top ten teams this year, defeating Corona Centennial and losing to Oaks Christian, and will need this win to legitimize their CIF championship chances. St. Bonny fans should expect a close game on this cold night, but Westlake will pull out the tough victory.
Santa Margarita (8-1) at Servite (8-1) - Both Servite and Santa Margarita are riding high after clinching playoff berths in huge wins last week. Servite has proved they can win the big games down the stretch after a road victory over St. John Bosco and a rivalry game win over Mater Dei in their past two games. Santa Margarita quarterback Johnny Stanton has fooled opposing defenses all season with his ability to run the ball and is coming off his best performance of the season in which he ran for 173 yards and passed for 153 more in a win over Bosco. Troy Thomas and the Servite coaching staff have consistently created game plans to shut down top offenses and I expect the same for tomorrow night's game. Servite and senior quarterback Cody Pittman will get the win and claim their third straight Trinity League title.
Redlands East Valley (9-0) at Yucaipa (9-0) - The "under the radar" game of the year pits two undefeated teams from the IE in the Citrus Belt League championship game. Redlands East Valley has been considered a top ten team in Southern California for much of the season, boosted by upset wins over Mission Viejo and Los Angeles Dorsey, but the Yucaipa Thunderbirds haven't received such praise. Yucaipa's explosive offensive is led by star quarterback Clayton Leach-Mead, who has ran for 1,206 yards and thrown for 867 yards. The Redlands Easy Valley defense has posted four shutouts and has allowed an average of only 6.5 points a game. The game will be close if Yucaipa can match Redlands East Valley's early scores but look for a blowout if Leach-Mead and the 'Birds get behind early.
